If you skim coat w/o the prep first, the water in the mud will re-activate the glue and you won't like the results. You need to let it totally dry first, then prime with oil base primer. So got my trowel and in 2 minutes i hacked off a huge. I've done this very thing several times with excellent results. I waited 5 minutes and watched the whole wall bubble. He had skimmed over yellow wallpaper, and the moisture fom my work pulled it off. It can be beneficial to p.v.a the wall beforehand as some painted walls and walls in houses built in the 40's the p.v. Skim coating and joint compound are both used for small surface defects, but there is a difference between the two: Joint compound should only be applied over drywall while skim coat can be applied over drywall or plaster. A small amount of paper wont make much difference as once p.v.a is applied it seals the surface and when plastering doesn't cause much of a problem.the plasterer will tell you what he would want from you when looking the job.personally i wont quote a job without the wall paper being stripped 1s't.it makes pricing the job easier and you get a more realistic price as you can see the condition of the walls. Instead of the DIF gel, I would run the regular DIF solution through a garden sprayer with very hot water and repeated soakings. ![]()
